Philadelphia 76ers: Biggest strengths and weaknesses for 2017-18
The Philadelphia 76ers are in a transition of The Process as they enter the 2017-18 season.
The Philadelphia 76ers made a power move in the 2017 NBA Draft when they acquired point guard Markelle Fultz with the first overall pick. The move addressed an immediate need in the scoring department, but it also left questions elsewhere.
The Sixers signed some quality veteran shooters in J.J. Redick and center Amir Johnson. After finishing the 2016-17 season with depth questions, that issue has certainly been addressed with the new additions.
However, Philadelphia isn’t in the clear yet, as an NBA championship is still a long ways off. Head coach Brett Brown has some quality players to work with entering the 2017-18 season, but like most things, there are strengths and there are weaknesses.
The Philadelphia 76ers still finished the regular season ranked 24th in scoring defense (108.1 points per game allowed) and 25th in scoring offense (102.4 points per game).
Point forward Ben Simmons has still yet to play, although the preseason should give fans plenty to look forward to. Center Joel Embiid only played in 31 games and even then, he led the team in points per game with 20.2 in just 25.4 minutes per game.
This season, there’s work to do in the Sixers have the playoffs on their mind. After winning 28 games in 2016-17, they’ll need to address certain weaknesses and capitalize on certain strengths to continue their improvement.
