Weakness: Lack of big man depth

Marcin Gortat is aging gracefully as the Wizards have become more competitive than they ever have been in recent years. However, at age 32, one would suspect the Wizards will begin the process of assessing the depth at the center position, since he simply can not be expected to beat Father Time forever.

He, along with the rest of the Wizards’ starting five, had a great year. In his 10th season, Gortat posted a double-double for just the second time in his career. While it may not sound impressive, the fact is the last time he accomplished this was back during the 2011-2012 season at the age of 27. Like fine wine, he simply has somehow gotten better with age, which is not typical of a big man of his stature.

While this is certainly a positive note, the best the Wizards have in reserve in any worst-case scenario is Ian Mahinmi, who played only 31 games last season due to injury.

It should not be expected for history to repeat itself, but the Wizards made no moves during the offseason to provide an insurance plan for a worst-case scenario should anything happen to Marcin Gortat.

The time has come and passed for the Wizards to acquire any talent during the draft or free agency, but this should certainly be at the top of the to-do-list for the front office for the 2018-19 regular season.
