Houston Rockets: Biggest strengths and weaknesses for 2017-18
The Houston Rockets are poised to be a contender in the upcoming NBA season. But what areas are they strong in and where do they need to improve?
The Houston Rockets had one of the most eventful and highly praised offseasons in the league. As a result of the moves they made this summer, they are poised to be an improved team and a potential challenger to the Golden State Warriors.
However, every team has its strengths and weaknesses, and the Rockets are no exception. Last season Houston was fairly one-dimensional, using its high-powered offense to cover up for a mediocre defense.
Things have changed this summer due to the various players Daryl Morey added to the roster. Gone are poor to average defenders in Lou Williams, Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrel, and in come solid defenders in P.J. Tucker and Luc Mbah a Moute.
Of course, then there’s the headlining addition of Chris Paul, who is good on both sides of the ball. He adds additional playmaking and good shooting, and how he meshes with James Harden will most likely decide the fate of the Rockets’ season.
In the end, Houston had a lot of moving pieces and its roster looks significantly different than last season. However, the Rockets still have strengths and weaknesses, though they are slightly different now due to the players added and lost this summer.
Let’s take a closer look at where the Houston Rockets should excel this season and where they will most likely struggle.
