2. Yogi Ferrell should be done with Summer League now

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that has a lot to look forward to. They have point guard Dennis Smith Jr., who is arguably a steal in the 2017 NBA Draft. This summer, they still enjoyed the wealth of talent and the mentality Yogi Ferrell has brought to the team. Ferrell has gone from being undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, to the G League, to being a key piece on the Mavs’ roster.

While the Brooklyn Nets didn’t see his worth, Ferrell used that as more motivation. Eventually he ended up on Dallas’ roster on a 10-day contract. Simply put, he made the most of his short contracts and is now with the team long-term.

Since signing a two-year deal to the team back in February, Ferrell has impressed with his abilities. In Las Vegas, he was a key cog in their near-undefeated run to the Summer League semis. Ferrell averaged 13.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game as the Mavericks went 5-1 overall.

Ferrell picked up where he left off in the regular season in Vegas. He played a strong game next to fellow rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. despite his small stature. Although Ferrell stands at only 6’0″, he makes up for it with his strength, defense and determination.

With other defenders on the floor, Ferrell will likely become more of an asset than a liability, especially with his leadership skills.
