3. Brandon Ashley is back with the Dallas Mavericks

It wasn’t that long ago the Dallas Mavericks and 6’9″ forward Brandon Ashley were familiar with each other. After going undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft, Ashley was given a chance to make the Mavs’ roster before being subsequently cut from the team.

After getting cut, Ashley starred on the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ D-League team, in 2015-16. That season, Ashley averaged 14.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists through 33 games. He shot 45.3 percent from the floor and 39.3 percent from three.

He spent last season in Germany with Alba Berlin before returning to the NBA. Now, he looks to prove himself for a second time on a team in need of aggressive scorers.

The Mavericks ranked 30th in the league in points per game (97.9). Ashley is not exactly instant offense, but he definitely can give them a spark off the bench with his athleticism and rebounding ability. He led Alba Berlin in rebounds with 5.7 per game.

Next to Johnathan Motley, Ashley could prove to be a solid player in the Mavericks’ rotation. Earning a second contract is just the beginning.
