The Dallas Mavericks have a bright future ahead of them after their performance in NBA Summer League.

A lot of fans/critics always say NBA Summer League should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it’s hard to hide the fact Dennis Smith Jr. could arguably be the steal of the 2017 NBA Draft. The Dallas Mavericks front office is licking its chops after taking Smith Jr. with ninth overall pick.

After how Smith Jr. performed in Las Vegas, it’s hard to foresee the Mavericks not improving overall next season. With Yogi Ferrell and Smith Jr. leading the way, the Mavericks have shown they’re still building something special in Dallas.

The Mavs made it all the way to the Summer League semifinals before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers, but that’s okay. They still posted a 5-1 record in Las Vegas and showed they’re one of the up-and-coming teams in the NBA. Their youth movement showed the Mavericks’ front office is doing its part to add solid talent to build a potential contender.

Whether it’s the NBA Draft or acquiring undrafted free agents, the Dallas Mavericks have showed that taking risks brings rewards. It wasn’t too long ago Yogi Ferrell was on a pair of 10-day contracts before signing a guaranteed deal with the club.

Now, the Mavericks continue to move forward after a strong summer campaign.
