Shooting Guard: Clyde Drexler

Clyde Drexler, who I’ve declared is the Blazers’ all-time greatest draft pick, is a shoo-in for the Blazers All-Time starting five. Clyde Drexler made eight All-Star appearances and four All-NBA teams in Portland. He was also a member of the original Dream Team. Most importantly, Clyde Drexler was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004.

Drexler was the star player during the Blazers’ run as championship contenders in the early ’90s. Portland made the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992, losing both series to the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls, respectively.

In 1991, the team had a league-high 63 wins. However, they fell two games short of the NBA Finals. Clyde Drexler led the team in PER in each of those three seasons. He also led the team in win shares in 1987-88, 1988-89 and 1991-92.

Drexler was also a captivating dunker during his time in Portland. He participated in the Slam Dunk Contest five times in the 1980s. He had his best finish in his final appearance, placing second to Kenny Walker of the New York Knicks in 1989.

Clyde Drexler has played the most seasons (11 and a half), games (867) and minutes (29,496) of any Trail Blazer. He has also scored the most points (18,040), pulled down the most offensive rebounds (2,227), and swiped the most steals (1,795) in team history.

Drexler’s lasting impact on the Blazers and basketball at-large cements his position as the All-Time Blazers starting 2-guard.
