The Atlanta Hawks added center Dewayne Dedmon in free agency to fill a much needed void in the middle after dealing away Dwight Howard.

The Atlanta Hawks managed to pry Dewayne Dedmon away from the San Antonio Spurs with the promise of an opportunity, and a chance to fill a much-needed void.

A rebuilding effort was kickstarted before the 2017 NBA Draft, as Atlanta dealt away Dwight Howard to the Hornets, even though he ranked fifth in rebounding last season.

Howard pulled down 12.7 rebounds along with 13.5 points, 1.4 assists and 1.2 blocks per game, but was traded after Atlanta was eliminated from postseason contention.

In need of a center capable of protecting the rim and adept at grabbing rebounds, the Hawks agreed to a two-year, $14 million deal with Dedmon.

During his lone season in San Antonio, Dedmon started 37 of his 76 games played, proving to be a viable rebounding option, ranking second on the team in defensive rebounds and third in offensive rebounds.

With a prime opportunity to be the primary center in Atlanta, Dedmon could be in line for the best season of his career. Here are five goals to ensure he remains the Hawks’ starting center for the foreseeable future.
