5. Jan. 3 at Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers have not been a threat in the Western Conference in a number of seasons. However, their time is coming once again, soon enough. The Lakers have a number of great young players, namely Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball.

The last two No. 2 overall picks give the Lakers a very strong foundation to build upon. The Lakers’ rebuild is set up to really take off next season. The reason for that? The 2018 free agent class. Oddly enough, two of the biggest names in that class are on the Thunder.

Both Russell Westbrook and Paul George could become free agents next year. George has already stated his intentions of wanting to be with the Lakers. Westbrook, a California native, could be drawn to return home as well.

The Thunder are hoping that is not the case and that they can retain both players to build something special in Oklahoma City. The easiest way to quell those urges is to beat the Lakers and showcase the positives of being in Oklahoma City.

That is a task that is easier said than done. Every time the Thunder visit the Lakers you know the fans there will give them a warm welcome to try and sway their decisions. In addition to Jan. 3, the Thunder will also visit the Lakers on Feb. 8.
