NBA rumors: Most likely landing spots for LeBron James in 2018
4. Houston Rockets
At this point, LeBron James can sign wherever he wants to. I’m sure if he called up just about any NBA GM and said, “I want to sign with your team,” they’d find a way to make it happen. So why wouldn’t he want to go to the Houston Rockets?
Apart from the Golden State Warriors, they’re the top contenders in the West right now. They made some significant moves this offseason to increase their stock, but still appear one piece away from giving the Warriors a real run for their money. If they fail to acquire Carmelo Anthony at some point between now and February, James has to be the next guy on their list of targets.
He’d be an obvious upgrade over Trevor Ariza on the wing. He’d also give the Rockets the third and final piece to their own Big Three — one that could do some serious damage in the West. The financials would be difficult to figure out with Chris Paul being a free agent next offseason and Clint Capela headed for restricted free agency, but they’re just hurdles.
If they can find a taker for Ryan Anderson‘s contract, they’d be in a much better position. They can also use Capela’s Bird Rights to go over the cap, allowing them some financial flexibility.
Right now, signing LeBron seems like a pipe dream for just about everyone, including the Cavaliers. However, with James’ buddy CP3 on the roster and a true contender potentially being created, the Rockets have to be in serious contention for his services.
