Minnesota Timberwolves: Top 10 NBA Draft picks in franchise history
7. Christian Laettner (PF/C) — No. 3 pick in 1992 NBA Draft
Career stats (with the Timberwolves): 272 GP, 17.2 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 3.2 APG, 47.4 FG%, 81.4 FT%
The first five years Christian Laettner spent in the NBA were collectively the best of his 12-year career. Four of those five seasons were spent with the Minnesota Timberwolves. His impressive time at Duke looked like a seamless transition into the NBA after being drafted in 1992 with the third overall pick.
Unfortunately for Laettner, after leaving the Timberwolves in 1996, his statistics slowly fell. Because of that, the one time NBA All-Star is not as highly touted in other places as he is in Minnesota.
During his time with the Timberwolves, Laettner averaged 18 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He was an all-around good player and also got it done on the defensive end.
Christian Laettner is best known for “The Shot” to beat Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA Tournament, as seen below.
Had Laettner stayed with the Wolves, his career may have played out different. But at least as far as the Minnesota Timberwolves are concerned, Laettner was a top-10 draft pick of all time.
