9. Nikola Pekovic (C) — No. 31 pick in 2008 NBA Draft

Career stats (with the Timberwolves):  271 GP, 12.6 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 0.7 APG, 51.8 FG%, 76 FT%

If Nikola Pekovic had avoided injuries, he’d be higher on this list. Pekovic was a strong center that was very effective when he was healthy. He was the first pick of the second round (31st overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft.

Before a season-ending injury during the 2013-14 season, Pekovic averaged 17.5 points and 8.7 rebounds. That was his best season statistically after signing a five-year max contract the summer before. Unfortunately, Pekovic only played in 43 games over the next three seasons. Not playing with a salary that large was a big reason for the Timberwolves’ failures that time.

This offseason, the NBA allowed the Timberwolves to waive Pekovic before the start of free agency.
