If Dwight Howard improves his free throws and his outside shooting, he can help lead the Charlotte Hornets to the playoffs next season.

This offseason, the Charlotte Hornets made an excellent choice when they acquired Dwight Howard from the Atlanta Hawks. Howard had just come off a very good season and played an integral role in the the Hawks reaching the playoffs — an achievement the Hornets hope he can replicate in Charlotte.

Howard can continue to be a strong defensive presence In Charlotte, and in every season of his 13-year career, he has averaged a double-double. Last season, he averaged 13.5 points and 12.7 rebounds per game.

But in order for Howard to be a facilitating contributor to the Hornets’ success, he must follow through and achieve the following five goals: make his free throws, stay out foul trouble, defend the perimeter, improve his jump shot and become an offensive threat.

If Howard is able to achieve these five goals, then the Hornets will not miss the playoffs again next season.
