Shooting Guard: DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan, the other half of Toronto’s current backcourt, will get the nod at shooting guard.

The Raptors took DeRozan with the ninth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. After a slow rookie season, DeRozan put up 17.2 points a game in his second season and has been a volume scorer ever since. He made the first of his three All-Star appearances in 2015.

DeRozan is not much of a 3-point shooter. He has a 28.1 percent career 3-point percentage and his career high percentage from deep is just 33.8. DeRozan is much more Dwyane Wade than he is Ray Allen.

DeMar put up a career high 27.3 points a game last year, the second highest scoring average for a Raptors player. He torched the defense in the pick-and-roll, pulling up for mid-range jumpers or driving all the way to the hoop. DeRozan is arguably the best mid-range scorer in the game today, and he excels at the free throw line too.

In the 2015-16 season, DeRozan made 555 free throws, second in the league behind James Harden. He followed that up with 545 made free throws last season, finishing fifth in the NBA. DeRozan shoots 82.8 percent from the line for his career. DeMar’s ability to either finish at the rim or get to the line has turned him into one of the best scorers in Raptors history.
