Philadelphia 76ers: 5 takeaways from 2017 NBA Summer League
2. Furkan Korkmaz will be another under-the-radar rookie for Philadelphia
Forward Furkan Korkmaz is another player who made a splash in Summer League play in Las Vegas. Korkmaz is a former teammate of current Philadelphia 76ers’ player Dario Saric.
He ended Summer League play in Las Vegas on a high note, scoring 22 points in the team’s final loss to the Chicago Bulls.
Korkmaz finished with averages of 14.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game before it was over. He started in all five games he appeared in. It gave Korkmaz a taste of the type of style and pace the NBA plays with.
The 20-year-old forward is fresh off a season he spent on loan to Banvit, a club in Turkey. With that club, he averaged 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23.4 minutes per game. The budding wingman continues to improve as a 3-point shooter. He shot 39.8 percent from the 3-point line.
Much like Dario Saric, Korkmaz is ready to enter the league but nobody has taken much notice — yet. If he can continue to develop and find his role on the wing, Korkmaz could find himself with a spot on the Sixers’ roster. He currently only weighs 192 pounds, so putting on some muscle should help his cause.
