Philadelphia 76ers: 5 takeaways from 2017 NBA Summer League
4. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is becoming a trade asset
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot made a brief appearance in the Las Vegas Summer League this past July. The second-year shooting guard put up strong production after the All-Star Break last season.
He averaged 11.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 26.8 minutes per game for Philadelphia in 26 games after the break. It was a significant jump in playing time that Luwawu-Cabarrot made the most of. In Summer League, he averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in three appearances before being sidelined with injury.

However, the second-year shooting guard is beginning to lack a niche with the Sixers.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ biggest need this offseason was 3-point shooting. They filled the void with one signing, acquiring veteran guard J.J. Redick on a one-year, $21 million deal. Redick is sure to be in the starting lineup for the Sixers on day one.
The 2017 NBA Draft went from interesting to intriguing after the Boston Celtics swapped the first overall pick for the third overall pick with Philadelphia. After taking shooting guard Markelle Fultz, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot could become expendable before the end of next season.
With Fultz and Redick now in the mix, it leaves Luwawu-Cabarrot in an interesting position. Fultz and Redick give the Philadelphia 76ers two guards who fit a need while Luwawu-Cabarrot is left to develop.
He’s eligible to spend more time in the G League with the team’s Delaware club. He spent time briefly with them last season although he only played in three games there. With the logjam at shooting guard, he made become expendable before it’s all said and done.
