Center: Jack Sikma

The starting center for the Thunder and SuperSonics’ all-time starting five was a no-brainer decision with Jack Sikma. Sikma was selected eighth overall by the SuperSonics in the 1977 NBA Draft and had the most productive seasons of his career with Seattle.

Sikma would play the first nine seasons of his 14-year career with the SuperSonics. He made the All-Star game seven times in those nine seasons. He also made the All-Rookie team, All-Defensive Team for the 1981-82 season, and helped the SuperSonics win their only title in 1979.

Sikma has the most rebounds in franchise history. He averaged at least 8.3 every season with the team and had 7,729 total rebounds in nine seasons. Sikma also has the most defensive rebounds with 5,948 and has the most defensive win shares in franchise history as well. According to Basketball Reference, Sikma is in the top-10 of 27 of the 51 statistical categories on the team index.

Sikma did a little bit of everything for the SuperSonics, as he also averaged 3.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in his SuperSonics tenure. He showcased good touch on his jump shot, making 83.6 percent of his free throws. He is someone that could have thrived in today’s NBA just as he did during his era.

Sikma rounds out what looks like a very versatile starting five. When you add in players off the bench, such as Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Fred Brown, Detlef Schrempf and Serge Ibaka, there are some interesting lineup combinations that are possible.
