Small Forward: Kevin Durant

Fans’ opinion of Kevin Durant has certainly changed after the 2016 offseason, when he left the Thunder and signed with the Golden State Warriors as a free agent. It was a move that disappointed many basketball fans, especially fans of the Thunder. However, there is no denying that Durant is the greatest small forward this franchise has seen.

Durant spent the first nine seasons of his career with this team. He owns multiple franchise records, as he ranks first in 3-pointers made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, points per game, Player Efficiency Rating, and win shares per 48 minutes, according to Basketball-Reference.

Durant finds himself on 31 of the 51 leaderboard statistics on Basketball Reference in franchise history. He is one of the best players in the NBA, and fans of the SuperSonics and Thunder got to see that firsthand for almost a decade.

Four times with the Thunder, Durant led the NBA in points per game. He has averaged at least 20 points per game in every season of his career, a truly impressive feat. Durant gets it done on both ends of the court, as he is extremely gifted offensively but is no slouch defensively either.

Leaving Oklahoma City for Golden State left many with a sour taste in their mouths. Oklahoma City looked to be on the cusp of knocking off the Warriors. Unfortunately, it is something we will never see. While fans may not feel the same way about Durant now as they did two years ago, there is no denying where he is among the greatest players in SuperSonics and Thunder history.
