No. 8 seed?

The third and final possibility for next season has its own set of positives and negatives. Obviously, making the playoffs would be a great accomplishment. The New York Knicks are perpetual failures, so a postseason run would bring much-needed momentum. However, it would also mean a lower draft pick with less likelihood to find another difference-maker.

Either way, the truth is the Knicks could very well make the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference. The Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks all regressed this offseason in significant ways. Consequently, the playoff door is wide open for the Knicks to walk through if they choose to be competitive.

The addition of Tim Hardaway Jr. paired with a newly motivated Kristaps Porzingis has the potential to be special. Add in the scoring of Michael Beasley with the interior presence of Willy Hernangomez and a legitimate NBA team appears. Questions remain about depth and at the point guard position, but in this year’s Eastern Conference it may not matter.
