Between now and 2020, the Houston Rockets could find themselves in position to land yet another superstar or two during NBA free agency.
Right now, the Houston Rockets have the makings of a legitimate contender for the Western Conference crown. It’s still to be determined if they can truly compete with the Golden State Warriors, but a deep playoff run seems like a solid starting point for their 2017-18 projections.
No matter what the outcome is this season, though, the Rockets better be looking for ways to improve in the next few years. They’ve already made significant progress this offseason, but the fun shouldn’t stop there. This team has serious potential, but may need another boost or two to become true contenders in the West.
So how do they do that? Well, targeting some of the top names in the NBA would be a great start. While landing another superstar may seem like a pipe dream for Houston, it’s not as crazy of an idea as it may seem.
In fact, the Rockets aren’t too far away from being able to squeeze in another max contract. Between unloading a couple of overpriced contracts and making some difficult decisions on pending free agents, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Houston to add another elite player in the next three years.
