New York Knicks: Three nuclear options to deal with Carmelo Anthony
By Eric Snyder
Take what you can get
It may very well be too dramatic for the New York Knicks to refuse to trade Carmelo Anthony. In that case, the team of Mills and Perry have few options. Choosing the best option out of a bucket of bad options is no easy task.
As has been widely reported by ESPN, the Houston Rockets want the Knicks to take Ryan Anderson and his $60 million contract. Anderson is a stretch power forward who can shoot the lights out from outside. The Knicks haven’t been able to stomach his contract or the fact that he plays the same position as Kristaps Porzingis.
However, pairing Anderson and Porzingis wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. Bad contract aside, Ryan Anderson plays winning basketball. His shooting would open the floor up for the offense and is deadly in transition. Anderson may not fit the youth mold in New York but he would be a veteran voice on a young team.
A trade makes sense if the Knicks can get rid of Carmelo, get an experienced sharpshooter and at least keep their draft picks. No, it’s not the perfect trade and wouldn’t be widely accepted. Yet, enough time has been wasted on Carmelo already. Instead of making him sit, which would likely cause even more drama, it’s time to get him out of New York.
