New York Knicks: Three nuclear options to deal with Carmelo Anthony
By Eric Snyder
Let it go
The New York Knicks have been battling the Carmelo Anthony issue almost since they traded for him. Multiple trade scenarios have surfaced over time with nothing ever coming to fruition. Consequently, a trade may not be a good idea unless the Knicks want to accept a bad deal.
Sometimes knowing when to retreat and recoil is the difference between winning and losing a war. With that said, it may be time for the Knicks to retreat from the Carmelo battle.
If Carmelo Anthony refuses to completely waive his no-trade clause he leaves the Knicks with no good choices. His stubbornness hinders the plans Scott Perry has for the future and simply isn’t fair. Therefore, the Knicks should take Carmelo off the trade market completely.
Phil Jackson tried using force and confrontation to entice Carmelo into accepting a trade. Steve Mills and Scott Perry have tried being cordial and professional but nothing has worked. So, if Carmelo wants to remain stubborn he should remain on the Knicks.
By refusing to trade Carmelo, the Knicks can also refuse to play him. Eventually, if Carmelo wants to play basketball he will be forced to accept a trade wherever the Knicks see fit. The situation may not be perfect but at least the Knicks wouldn’t be held hostage by an overrated star. Still yet, other extreme options remain.
