The New York Knicks have been dealing with the Carmelo Anthony situation seemingly forever. Many options remain and some are more extreme than others.

When Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks gave Carmelo Anthony a no-trade clause, the future of all three parties changed instantly. The drastic and desperate nature of the move placed the Knicks in an impossible situation.

However, Carmelo is in one of the most powerful positions of any player in basketball. With Phil Jackson gone, the Knicks desperation to make a trade is much less palpable. The two sides stand at odds but professionalism and respect has reentered Madison Square Garden.

Nevertheless, something has to be done about Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks don’t want him and Carmelo wants to play for the Houston Rockets. Without the no-trade clause, Carmelo would have been traded long ago. With the infamous clause in force, Steve Mills and Scott Perry have to make the best of a bad situation.

To make the best of a bad situation often requires choosing the lesser of two or more evils. For the New York Knicks, there is no good option available. Each option has its own advantages and many disadvantages. Yet, something has to be done.
