4. Play at least 70 games

Over the history of the NBA Draft, talented players have fallen because of health concerns. Some players’ potential surpassed those troubles, like Joel Embiid going third to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. Others, like Ike Anigbogu this year, can fall out of the first round.

Jonathan Isaac doesn’t have the same issues of former players, but he does have asthma, according to Draft Express and others. That affects his conditioning, which could in part affect his ability to play heavy minutes. We’ll have to wait and see how big of an issue this is.

It’s possible that in such a loaded draft, that may have put teams off taking him in the top-five. We may never know. However, on top of his breathing, a hip injury prematurely ended his Summer League campaign. Now, a strain is not a chronic injury, but it reminds us of how quickly a player can be off the court.

Between his asthma and an early injury, Isaac should aim to play 70 times this season. That is a benchmark for both his development and his conditioning. It’ll likely mean he’s earned the team’s trust and perhaps many of those 70 appearances could come as starts.
