Brooklyn Nets: Top 10 NBA Draft picks in franchise history
The Brooklyn Nets’ record of picking in the NBA Draft is spotty. But who are the best selections in franchise history?
The Brooklyn Nets sport one of the least impressive records in the NBA Draft history. Only 56 of the team’s 173 selections have ever actually suited up for the team. Those 56 players provided 449.4 win shares as members of the Nets.
On top of that, only one of the six numbers retired by the Nets belongs to a player drafted by the franchise. Five out of the 14 Nets that have been selected to the All-Star Game were drafted by the team. Nets draftees account for seven of the 22 total All-Star selections. They’ve also combined for two Rookie of the Year awards, 12 All-Rookie selections, three All-NBA selections, and one All-Defensive selection.
The dearth of draft production was exacerbated by the infamous trade of 2013 that sent four first round picks to the Boston Celtics. Those picks have turned into James Young, Jaylen Brown and Markelle Fultz. The Nets owe Boston one more pick in 2018.
Nevertheless, the new Nets front office under general manager Sean Marks has pushed forward. In the 2017 NBA Draft, the team selected Texas center Jarrett Allen late in the first round. They did so with a pick they acquired from the Washington Wizards in February. The organization surely hopes he will be a major part of their future.
