2. Arron Afflalo

It’s fair to question if Arron Afflalo was a sensible get given the fact that he’s 31 years old and hasn’t been nearly the player he was with the Magic since leaving.

It’s also all right to be concerned by the fact he likely won’t be a starter or this team’s first offensive option anymore either.

What exactly can he do then? Well, aside from being a locker room leader like Speights and actually wanting to be on the team, Afflalo can come in and provide spot-up shooting and instant offense during the season.

There’s no point in lying: Some of his stats since leaving the team are just ugly. However, he shot 41 percent from three-point range for the Sacramento Kings last season — a team that didn’t exactly have enough quality on the court at all times.

He did this while playing 25 minutes per night, the third-lowest mark of his career. An effective field goal percentage of 51 percent last season is another positive.

Afflalo likely won’t even be the player he was for this team three years ago. But he can be a better, healthier version of Jodie Meeks, and may hold the key to unlocking Payton’s potential as well.

He also makes D.J. Augustin expendable, and even picking up a second round pick in return for his services would give the team another asset for GM Hammond to use in the not too distant future.
