3. Marreese Speights

The addition of Marreese Speights appears to have gone under the radar for most. It’s understandable when the team already has Biyombo and Vucevic.

We’ve covered in more detail here how Speights could actually step in and fill a hole if one of those two is traded, which at this point may make the most sense. But beyond that, he’s a fantastic addition because he can spread the floor really well for his teammates.

Last season, Speights shot 37.2 percent from three-point range. The Magic ranked second-to-last in the league in that category, shooting 32.8 percent.

So right away we can see he’ll help in that area, and can be used if the team goes with some more unconventional lineups.

He may not provide much help defensively, but he’s stated how happy he is to be in Orlando where he played college ball, and he’ll be great to have around players like Isaac.

At $2.1 million for one season, he’s the kind of low-risk move the team should be taking to try and push them towards the playoffs.

Best-case scenario, he’s a better version of Channing Frye for this team. Worst-case scenario, he’ll be gone in a year. When you can shoot like he can, where are the negatives in a signing like that?
