Sacramento Kings: 5 goals for Harry Giles’ rookie season
By Max Holm
4. Develop chemistry with the young Kings
Including Giles, the Kings have 11 players who are 24 years old or younger. Even with the additions of George Hill and Zach Randolph, this is a young ball club. Those seasoned veterans won’t be in Sacramento after a few years, but these young bucks will.
That’s why it’s important for them to start jelling. Developing chemistry on and off the court is something the franchise has lacked for probably a decade or more. That’s what rebuilding teams have neglected to prioritize in the past. You see it in Philadelphia and Brooklyn now, as teams that genuinely enjoy playing for one another. That’s now on the docket for Giles and the Kings.
Despite his injuries, by all accounts Giles is a very upbeat personality and a hard worker. Putting in work with guys his age, guys who could be teammates for a long time, will only help him and the future of the Kings.
This group of players under 25 may likely develop as his best support system. When he’s not getting to where he wishes or when he can’t crack the rotation, these are the guys he can lean on most. Having the back of De’Aaron Fox and learning from Willie Cauley-Stein are subtle things that will help Giles during his rookie campaign. In fact, Skal Labissiere probably has some solid advice on patience and growth.
