After a disappointing NBA Summer League, rookie Tyler Lydon has plenty of work to do to become a contributor on the Denver Nuggets this season.

The Denver Nuggets are coming off a fairly busy and successful summer. Adding Paul Millsap to the young duo of Nikola Jokic and Gary Harris leaves Denver with a chance to make a playoff run next season. Even with NBA stars flocking west like geese, Millsap’s addition to the Nuggets’ core absolutely gives them a fighting chance.

Another important move the team made was parting with the 13th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Before Donovan Mitchell tore it up in Summer League, getting back Trey Lyles and the 24th pick seemed like good value.

Lyles could have a big role to play next season and is still under team control for potentially two more years. Denver will also have the 24th pick, Syracuse’s Tyler Lydon, under contract for four years, if they want.

The Nuggets probably regret passing up on Mitchell and it didn’t help to see Lydon struggle in Las Vegas. A 6’10” forward with a 7’0″ wingspan, Lydon has the body to be a modern stretch-4. That’s a promising archetype in the NBA, but he hardly showed any promise of growing into that role.

With a laborious rookie year ahead, Lydon has a lot of work to do, especially because of how deep Denver is. Here are five things he should focus on during his first season in the league.
