Here are three standouts for the Oklahoma City Thunder during the Orlando Summer League.
The Oklahoma City Thunder participated in the Orlando Summer League this year. The results were mixed, at best.
Oklahoma City has had the benefit of having an affiliate in the NBA G League, the Oklahoma City Blue. This gives them a chance to develop young players whether it be second round picks or undrafted free agents. It gives them an advantage over teams that may not have a single affiliate, as they can put players into the pipeline, molding them in preparation for helping out the NBA team.
It is something every NBA team will have soon and should take full advantage of. The Thunder had no one under the age of 21 playing during NBA Summer League this year. The only player who was under 21 on the roster was 2017 NBA Draft pick Terrance Ferguson, but he was unable to play because of FIBA issues with his contract.
Despite all of that experience, the Thunder didn’t have a great performance in Summer League. They started off well, going 2-0 against the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks, but then they suffered three consecutive blowout losses to the Charlotte Hornets, Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers.
Oklahoma City would end up sixth in the Orlando Summer League out of eight teams. Overall, that is a pretty disappointing finish. However, there were still some positives to take away from the games.
