3. Tyler Zeller

After being waived by the Boston Celtics back on July 2, Tyler Zeller is now an unrestricted free agent. Zeller’s non-guaranteed contract for the 2017-18 season would have become fully guaranteed at $8 million if he was not waived before the July 2 deadline.

In his third season with the Celtics, the 27-year-old averaged a career-low in points (3.5), rebounds (2.4) and minutes (10.3) following the offseason in which the team inked Al Horford to a four-year, $113 million deal.

Zeller has certainly seen a decline since his first year in Boston (2014-15), where he averaged a career high in points (10.2) and rebounds per game (5.7) while shooting 54.9 percent from the floor.

While Zeller has a decent knack for finding his spots down low, he’s not really someone that steps out and his a 15-plus foot jumper. He’s pretty one-dimensional when it comes to his low-post presence, being a bit sneaky around the paint while his defender pays attention to the man with the ball.

While it seems Kenny Atkinson and Sean Marks are looking for more of a big that can space the floor, Zeller does provide some nice interior defense, challenging drives to the rim. If anything, Zeller is a low-cost rental with some upside. A move like this would maintain cap flexibility beyond the 2017-18 season, as well.
