4. Memphis Grizzlies

When a team gets younger, they don’t always get better. However, they usually improve their long-term outlook. That didn’t happen with the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason.

Memphis lost Zach Randolph, Vince Carter and presumably Tony Allen. Even though Allen hasn’t signed with a new team, there haven’t been any connections to him coming back.

They combine to equal 111 years old, yet all three guys still have something left in the tank.

Randolph’s scoring has decreased each of the past four years. However, he still brings a menacing inside presence and reliable low-post scoring. He’s also a good rebounder.

Carter never seems to go away. At 40 years old, he’s one of the longest reigning NBA players. After two mediocre seasons, he rebounded to the tune of eight points per game last season.

Allen, perhaps, is the most useful of any of these players at this point in their careers. Even though he’s an offensive liability, he is one of the best defenders in the league. He doesn’t back down from anyone and can guard multiple positions.

The loss of these three means that Memphis has some work to do this season. The additions of Ben McLemore, Tyreke Evans and Mario Chalmers should fill some of that void. Unfortunately, Memphis will probably miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
