5. This is about more than money for Rose

During the Bulls’ Media Day prior to the start of the 2015-16 campaign, Rose raised a few eyebrows when he mentioned (unprompted) he was already looking ahead to the free agency period this season.

These comments were considered somewhat strange, considering Rose had missed a total of 185 games over the course of a three-year span.

So to hear him speaking about looking to secure a large payday almost seemed awkward coming from a guy who had played in just 61 games from 2012-15. While Rose did have one of his most productive seasons in recent memory as a member of the New York Knicks last season (18.0 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 64 games), Rose has reportedly agreed to the veteran minimum of $2.1 million.

This was not the huge payoff Rose was hoping for. However, the opportunity to play alongside one of the best players of this era was just too much to pass up.
