Final verdict

Tom Thibodeau wants to make the Minnesota Timberwolves into serious NBA championship contenders. He has proven that with the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, and his veteran signings of Taj Gibson, Jeff Teague and Jamal Crawford. But pulling off a trade for Kyrie Irving would significantly change the landscape of the league.

Irving (openly) takes his intensity to another level when matched up against the Golden State Warriors. His game-winning shot in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals will forever be etched in the heads of basketball purists, and the Warriors. If Thibodeau is truly looking to turn the corner into title contention, then he needs not to worry about Irving’s fit on the roster.

The 2017-18 NBA season is going to be defined by teams with extremely top-heavy rosters. And no matter how well put together your team is the NBA, talent trumps all. Minnesota has a chance to land a top-15 player, one who has already proved that he is extremely effective against the reigning champs. If the Timberwolves want to enter the NBA’s elite, the Kyrie Irving trade would be the last step.
