A clear path in New York

The opportunity that Kyrie Irving sees in the New York Knicks has a lot to do with a weak Eastern Conference. There is no doubt the Boston Celtics will be one of the best teams in all of the NBA. Even if Kyrie is gone, the Cavs with LeBron James will remain a top contender in the East as well.

The rest of the Eastern Conference isn’t nearly as impressive. This offseason, the Washington Wizards and Milwaukee Bucks haven’t done much to improve their teams. The Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers are worse now and the Toronto Raptors continue to be an enigma. In other words, Kyrie sees a clear path to playoff success in New York.

The amount of NBA superstars in the Western Conference is amazing. Consequently, the talent level in the Eastern Conference is limited outside of Cleveland and Boston. The New York Knicks will have a chance to make the playoffs this season with or without Kyrie.

However, losing Carmelo and adding Irving makes a playoff run an inevitability. This clear path is what excites Irving when he looks at New York. The Heat can offer a similar path via the brilliance of Pat Riley.

For the New York Knicks to be on a destination list that includes the Spurs and Heat is a great sign. Obviously, Kyrie sees something in New York. What is the last piece of the New York seduction for Kyrie Irving?
