What they would be getting

It’s pretty hard to argue against trading for a player like Irving. He’s coming off a career year of 25.2 points and 5.8 assists per game on .473/.401/.905 shooting splits.

He’s a four-time All-Star who has proven time and time again to be a bucket-getter in the postseason, including one of the biggest shots in NBA history.

Could Irving be the piece that keeps the Spurs in contention with the Golden State Warriors in the West? Once newcomer Rudy Gay makes his way back from an Achilles injury, a lineup of Irving, Gay, Anderson, Kawhi Leonard and Pau Gasol may just have the versatility and firepower to keep up with the defending champions. Even going super small with Patty Mills in for Gasol could prove to be interesting.

Having stars is so important in today’s game, and adding Kyrie to the team’s current superstar Leonard would be a huge plus. We saw how the Spurs struggled once Leonard was injured in the Western Conference Finals. Having another star to not only play with him, but play for him at times would be huge. Those two playing off each other offensively, and having Kawhi to back Irving up on D could be a monstrous paring.

Even if they couldn’t take down the Warriors down this year, having two stars could lure another one next summer. With the likes of Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins available in the summer of 2018, a meeting with Leonard, Irving and coach Gregg Popovich could be too good to say no to.
