With most of the main formalities out-of-the-way, here’s a look at the five worst signings of the 2017 NBA free agency period.

Compared to the frenzy of the 2016 NBA free agency period, this year’s model was a far more measured approach.

Although some enormous contracts have been handed out over the past couple of weeks, the level of insanity reached last summer has not been matched. Chandler Parsons receiving $94 million, Allen Crabbe $75 million and Luol Deng $72 million are just a few of the examples of what occurred last summer, when the sudden explosion in the salary cap led many teams to make, in hindsight, very questionable decisions on their roster composition.

Fast forward to this summer, and the brakes have been applied significantly in comparison.

Granted, there was the $200 million deal handed to Stephen Curry, and the $172 million deal awarded to Blake Griffin. But these are All-Star players still in their prime. The reckless, and somewhat mindless, spending that was on display in 2016 has, for the most part, not been repeated.

But despite the front offices around the league appearing to be more frugal with their spending, there were still a few deals that slipped through the net that had many onlookers shaking their heads.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the five worst free agent deals signed thus far this offseason.
