Carmelo Anthony, SF, New York Knicks

If there’s any player who’s going to be traded sometime soon, it’s Carmelo Anthony. At this point, there’s way too much smoke for there to not be a blazing inferno accompanying it.

Pretty much since February, it’s been assumed Anthony wouldn’t be playing in New York in 2017-18. While a deal still hasn’t come to fruition, we appear closer than ever. Based on the latest rumors from around the league, it’s looking like Carmelo could be playing for the Houston Rockets sooner rather than later.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers have also been involved to some extent. However, as ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski recently pointed out, Anthony’s preference is to head to Houston to join Chris Paul and James Harden. While most players don’t have much say in it, his no-trade clause essentially puts the power in his hands.

Either way, the relationship between Carmelo and the Knicks appears beyond repair. Now that Scott Perry has been hired as the new general manager, I’d expect the pace to pick up with the team clearly headed in a different direction.

It’s anyone’s guess when a trade will go down, although Houston looks like the eventual destination. One way or another, though, expect Anthony to be wearing a different jersey during the 2017-18 campaign.
