With Quincy Acy continuing his NBA journey with the Brooklyn Nets, the Baylor University product is ready and excited to improve his game under head coach Kenny Atkinson.

While some major decisions have been looming about the future of the Brooklyn Nets‘ roster, general manager Sean Marks has been strategically making moves, putting the team in a position of flexibility.

In an effort to maximize production while keeping as much cap flexibility as possible, the Nets have unofficially exercised their option on Baylor University forward Quincy Acy.

The 37th overall selection made by the Toronto Raptors in the 2012 NBA Draft has played for five teams before making the Brooklyn Nets home during the 2016-17 season.

Acy was solid in his 32 games as a Brooklyn Net, averaging 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 15.9 minutes of play. What really stood out under Kenny Atkinson’s offense was Acy’s ability to knock down the three-point shot at a 43.4 percent clip.

The Baylor product attempted 83 three-pointers during his 32-game stint in Brooklyn, previously taking a season-high 60 three point attempts while playing 68 games with the New York Knicks back in 2014-15.

"“I think God just works in mysterious ways,” Acy told Greg Logan of Newsday back in March. “I went from the Mavericks, where I made one or two threes, even though Coach [Rick Carlisle] was encouraging me to shoot it, to the D-League, which is what really boosted my confidence as far as game reps and game shots.”"

And, Acy has certainly improved under Kenny Atkinson is his three-point shooting, showing a newfound willingness to shoot the ball, along with the opportunities in his pace-and-space offense.

"“I worked to better my shot, and my confidence is growing. I think the sky’s the limit. I’m going to try to become the best shooter I can become. I came into the league, and nobody thought I could shoot. Whenever I leave, they’ll know my name. That’s my goal.”"

With the Brooklyn Nets deadline looming this past Sunday to exercise Acy’s option, he not only celebrated the $1.7 million guaranteed veteran’s minimum deal for the 2017-18 season, but also got married to long-time girlfriend Jessica Fuentes.

Now, the work begins. Quincy Acy joins a pretty thin frontcourt for the Brooklyn Nets, looking for grit, toughness and passion in their front line. Acy certainly provides that, being to type of guy to do the little things — set hard screens, rebound the ball and put his body on the line defensively.

But, as Acy looks to expand his game with a “newly-inked” veteran minimum deal with the Brooklyn Nets, one potential game Acy may be looking to mold himself after is the man who went just two selections before him in the 2012 NBA Draft, Draymond Green.

"“That’s a great comparison,” Acy said. “Going into the [2012] draft, we were matched up against each other a lot, and he really took off and figured it out early. He already had a ball-handling skill set I really don’t have, but we do similar things. Hopefully, I can get my chance to figure it out and keep on improving.”"

Acy now has his chance. With plenty of minutes to go around at the four position, head coach Kenny Atkinson will be looking for the Texas native to bring that energy come training camp.
