Chicago Bulls: 5 takeaways from 2017 NBA Summer League
5. Antonio Blakeney opened a few eyes
Blakeney was not selected by any team in this year’s draft and was hoping to improve his stock by performing well in the tournament. Through the first two games, he didn’t have much of an impact, as he scored 17 points while shooting 5-for-14 from the field.
Over the next two games, though, Blakeney played exceptionally well. In Chicago’s 82-73 win over the Washington Wizards, he led all scorers with 23 points on 9-for-17 shooting overall, including a 4-for-5 effort from beyond the arc. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
Blakeney followed that up with another solid effort against the Portland Trail Blazers. In that game, he scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. He also connected on two of his four attempts from distance.
Unfortunately, his effort could not prevent the Bulls from losing 88-77. On the positive side, Blakeney proved he can impact a game in multiple ways and it would be a surprise if he was not on an NBA roster next season.
