Atlanta Hawks: 5 goals for John Collins’ rookie season
Following an impressive stint at the NBA Summer League tournament in Las Vegas, the Atlanta Hawks have even higher expectations for rookie John Collins.
The Atlanta Hawks essentially hit the reset button on their roster, clearing the way for the start of the John Collins era.
The 19th overall pick not only faces the difficult task of taking over the reins at the power forward position from Paul Millsap, an All-Star in each of the past four seasons, but he is also going to receive one of the steadiest workloads of any rookie this season.
Gone are Millsap, Dwight Howard, Thabo Sefolosha, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jose Calderon, as new general manager Travis Schlenk rebuilds the roster with a focus on youth and versatility.
Out of a possible 410 games started last year, the 2017-18 Hawks roster is returning a total of just 170 total starts, with the vast majority coming from point guard Dennis Schroder.
Aside from Schroder, the Hawks’ playoff hopes will likely be determined by the development of Collins.
Take a look at the five key attributes for Collins to focus on to have a successful debut season.
