Following their NBA Summer League game Wednesday night, the Washington Wizards filled their 17th spot on the roster with Devin Robinson.

The Washington Wizards have continued to work diligently and apparently finalized their effort to complete their roster heading into the 2017-18 regular season.

According to Candace Buckner of The Washington Post, Devin Robinson and the Washington Wizards came to a “two-way” contract agreement.

The deal between the Washington Wizards and Devin Robinson came after a fourth straight loss for their NBA Summer League squad.

So who is Devin Robinson for those who haven’t already heard of him, and was this the right move for the Washington Wizards?

Devin Robinson leaps his way to Washington

Devin Robinson played for three years for the Florida Gators in the SEC Conference, playing 105 games during that span.

Robinson stands a lanky 6’8″ weighing 178 pounds and serving as an absolute force on the court. He is especially exciting to watch when flushing down put-back rebounds.

Devin Robinson makes an outstanding effort on both sides of the ball. His defensive rebounding is solid, but offensively is a non-stop highlight reel.

He has finesse, hustle, and even a promising three-point shot.

Was this the right move for the Washington Wizards? The answer should be an overwhelming and resounding yes.

Noticing the recent ups and downs

During the Summer League play, Robinson has been, well, pretty terrible. Going into Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he is shooting 3-for-16 from the field and 1-for-8 from beyond the arc.

Is this even the same player we were just speaking of?

He still looks good on the defensive side though, with four steals and five blocks over four games. This may seem to be a potential head-scratcher decision, but it’s likely to be a summer slump for this stud athlete.

More from Hoops Habit

Despite his performances leaving much to be desired lately, Robinson still has tremendous upside. He is smooth when cutting to the rim with long strides and has the ability to create his own shot.

On defense, his seven-foot wingspan gives him the edge on contesting shots and disrupting passing lanes. He averages 1.3 steals per 40 minutes. He has great movement for his size and looks great switching on pick and rolls operating at the 4-spot.

His marks over three years in Florida are solid, but he still will need to be developed and put on some weight as well. In his final season with the Gators, he shot 47.5 percent from the field and 39.1 from beyond the arc.

He finished with 11.1 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game at Florida. If he can improve and develop properly in the G-League, he can potentially step into Jason Smith‘s role as early as the 2018-19 season.

With the Washington Wizards acquiring players like Tim Frazier, Mike Scott, Jodie Meeks and now Devin Robinson, one thing is clear.
