Look at this offseason

Fans of the New York Knicks have gone bald from scratching their heads this offseason. From the firing of the team president after the NBA Draft to failing to sign a veteran point guard, the summer of 2017 has been confusing at best, idiotic at worst.

Yes, there’s still time to sign a veteran point guard, but not the legitimate kind that was available early on. Frank Ntilikina will be a star point guard eventually, but he won’t be truly ready for two years. Steve Mills needed to sign a guard like George Hill for a two-year contract, but failed to do his job.

Instead of seeking the point guard he needed, Mills tried to fix a past mistake. Tim Hardaway Jr. was drafted by the Knicks only to be traded away two years later under Phil Jackson.

Maybe that was a mistake, maybe it wasn’t. However, committing $71 million to the unproven Hardaway is a definite mistake.

Steve Mills wanted to distance himself from Phil, but did so at the risk of handcuffing the Knicks for the next four years. When Mills should have been building the team, he chose to gallivant his newfound power no matter the lack of perceivable logic.

Mills destroyed the Knicks’ salary cap and removed them from a future LeBron sweepstakes. One final indicator showing the ineptitude of Steve Mills is the very presence of Carmelo Anthony.
