After a year of overpaying players due to the salary cap boom, players and teams have come back to real life this summer.
A lot of money was handed out over the first weekend of free agency, but the market appears to have slowed considerably. Part of that is due to the amount and quality of remaining players. Teams and the players are coming to a standoff to see who will blink first in this game of pay or don’t pay.
According to Spotrac, only nine teams have cap space remaining to sign free agents. Of those nine, only three (the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers) have over $10 million to spend.
While most of the players remaining on the board won’t command $10 million a year, a few of the guys on this list might. Remember, teams can go over to sign their own free agents, but if they want to sign outside players they must be under the cap to do so.
