Kevin Pangos has rough night, McClellan improves as Summer Wizards lose second straight
By Randy Porga
The Summer League Washington Wizards lost their second straight game to the Miami Heat in a foul frenzy, 91-87.
Coming off a close opener against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Summer League Washington Wizards were unable to overcome the Miami Heat.
This game would have gotten out of hand if it were not for the Summer League’s rules and format. Fouls consistently slowed play and prevented either team from developing a rhythm. The Wizards allowed the Heat to shoot a total of 38 free throws on the night.
The biggest offender was Daniel Ochefu, who committed an atrocious nine fouls. The team as a whole didn’t set a great example either.
Seven players committed at least four fouls, and as a team they totaled 41 to Miami’s 24. Without getting stuck on their lack of discipline too much, let’s touch on some positives.
Pangos hits a rough patch, McClellan improves
After his first two Summer League games, Kevin Pangos should see an improved interest from the Washington Wizards.
Watching this kid put the ball in the hole and set his teammates up is something truly special. Although he only had three assists on the night, he just looks great dishing the rock and should have a nice highlight reel by the end of Summer League.
However, this game was a bit different as he tallied up seven turnovers, which seemed to be contagious for the entire team. The Wizards had a case of the butterfingers quite honestly, totaling 23 turnovers for the game.

Chris McCullough would have had a decent outing if not for his 0:4 assist to turnover ratio, but he still finished the night with a double-double.
The same should be said of Sheldon McClellan or “Mac” who also reached a double-double but had a 1:4 assist to turnover ratio.
He showcased his ability in regard to shooting, finishing 6-of-10 on the night. If the Wizards are looking to add another offensive threat to their regular season roster Mac may prove worth the risk if he can follow through with a similar performance.
Michael Young‘s performance was just flat as he just was not able to do much. He finished shooting 3-of-9, although it should be noted he was the only player with 20+ minutes and zero turnovers.
This brings us finally to Daniel Ochefu. As it seems the case with most of the team for this game, his decent performance is overshadowed by his foul troubles. Although the Wizards are getting production out of him, he may be better off getting groomed in the D-League for the time being.
