The Summer League Washington Wizards kept it close during their opener against the Grizzlies, and Canadian star Kevin Pangos was quite impressive.

The NBA Summer League is now in full swing, and finally are able to sink our teeth into some action before the regular season. Watching the Summer League always has the benefit of seeing a potential star player emerge quietly into the next level.

One of these players this summer might just be the Canadian star from Gonzaga University, Kevin Pangos.

Formally of the Euroleague, playing 30 games during 2016-17, Pangos posted decent numbers. He averaged 8.7 points per game while shooting 38.1 percent over 20.8 minutes per game.

Playing for the Gonzaga Bulldogs of the West Coast Conference for his college career, he received 2015 WCC Player of the Year honors.

Making the jump to the pros

Although Kevin Pangos went undrafted in 2015, he made the most of his shot with the Washington Wizards in his Summer League debut.

While names like Sheldon Mac and Daniel Ochefu are being watched closely, Pangos should get some extra attention after yesterday. The Wizards ultimately fell to the Grizzlies, 91-88.

However, some of the most exciting minutes on the court were when the ball was in Pangos’ hands. The Wizards have already signed a solid backup to come off the bench for John Wall, but they do have room for one more player on their roster.

More from Hoops Habit

Kevin Pangos certainly has the ability to move the ball up the court and has excellent hustle to his game. Standing at 6’2″, he has decent size for a guard.

Clocking in 30 minutes of playing time, he found himself several opportunities to set his teammates up for shots as well as pulling up for a few of his own. On the day, he shot 3-for-9, which left more to be desired. However, he did sink two of his four shots from beyond the arc.

While Daniel Ochefu found his way to a double-double, Pangos seemingly had the best performance of the day. He finished with eight points, seven rebounds, seven assists two blocks and two steals. Most of all, he only turned the ball over once.

We even got a taste of what this kid can do late in the game and his clutch potential. He sank a go-ahead three pointer late in the fourth quarter to put the Wizards up for a brief period of time.

It’s only one game and this is the Summer League, so we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves though. Kevin Pangos will still look to string together more performances like this to fight for a roster spot for the Washington Wizards.
