2. Marreese Speights

Speights represented sensational value last season for the Los Angeles Clippers, having signed for just the veteran minimum of $1.4 million. Having opted out of the second year of his deal, Speights is naturally going to be in search of an increased salary. But with the market for centers currently drying up, this represents a potential bargain signing for the Mavericks this summer.

Last season, Speights averaged 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game. Most notably, his shooting splits of .445/.372/.876 demonstrated a great level of efficiency. While his defense has never been his strong point, Speights made a conscious effort to improve this area in recent years. One example is last season, Speights averaged 5.6 shot contests per game, ranking fourth on the Clippers despite his lack of playing time.

But one area that he made notable strides last season was his three-point shooting. Having attempted 141 three-pointers over his first eight seasons, Speights attempted 277 last season alone. Converting at a terrific 37.2 percent clip simply adds another string to his bow moving forward.

His most impressive performance was a 23-point, 10-rebound effort during a home win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. This including hitting 3-of-7 from downtown.

Speights’ versatility would be a terrific addition for the Mavericks. With the ability to play at both the 4- and 5-spots, Speights would present Carlisle with yet another weapon on the offensive end of the floor.
