Kyle Korver: 3 years, $22 million (Cleveland Cavaliers)

With limited cap space, the Cleveland Cavaliers needed to retain Kyle Korver for the sake of their bench. Re-signing their own free agents was the cheapest way to retain talent, but a three-year, $22 million deal can’t be the type of team-friendly discount the defending Eastern champs were hoping for.

While $7.3 million a year is pretty close to market value for a career 43.1 percent three-point shooter, a three-year deal for a 36-year-old whose game (and most especially, defense) is on the decline represents a shaky investment.

Considering how bad Korver was in the Finals series against Golden State, this is a significant amount of money to shell out for a guy who looked next to useless against Cleveland’s No. 1 obstacle to winning another title. The luxury tax implications alone are enough to make one shudder.
