2017 NBA free agency tracker: Grades for every deal so far
Paul Millsap: 3 years, $90 million (Denver Nuggets)
There are definitely some concerns that come with signing a 32-year-old veteran not named LeBron James to a deal that will pay him $30 million a season. But for a franchise that’s trying to take the next step back toward the playoffs with a young core, the Denver Nuggets signing Paul Millsap represents one of the best pairings in free agency this summer.
The Nuggets have a glaring need at the 4, with Kenneth Faried being more suited to come off the bench and Juan Hernangomez not quite ready to start for a playoff-hopeful team. Millsap fills that hole beautifully, with his experience and defensive versatility sure to bolster what was the NBA’s 29th ranked defense last season.
His three-point efficiency leaves something to be desired, but Millsap is a perfect fit both on and off the court. His deal is only three years instead of the riskier four-year max, he’s a perfect fit both on and off the court and his arrival in the Mile High City marks the first marquee free agent the Nuggets have landed in quite some time.
