2017 NBA free agency tracker: Grades for every deal so far
Mike Muscala: 2 years, $10 million (Atlanta Hawks)
Last season with the Atlanta Hawks, fourth-year pro Mike Muscala averaged career highs in minutes (17.7), points (6.2), rebounds (3.4) and assists per game (1.4), as well as three-point percentage (41.8). He shot 50.4 percent from the field and 76.6 percent from the foul line as well.
To that end, re-signing him to such a cheap a two-year deal makes sense for a team in the middle of a rebuild, especially since a bunch of other suitors could’ve made a much better offer for the 26-year-old power forward/center.
Whether the Hawks match an insane offer for restricted free agent Tim Hardaway remains to be seen, especially with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s name floating around now. But even if this deal takes Atlanta out of the running for KCP, the second-year player option makes it a solid “prove it” contract — mostly for Muscala, but possibly for the tanking Hawks as well.
